I sympathize, but KOrganizer suffers from a chronic shortage of developer
interest.  I am using my (limited) time to pursue a different bug at the
moment.

For a possible work-around, if you have an Android device, you could use
KOrganizer to create the event in a Google calendar, and let Google deliver the
reminder.

If you have an interest in C++ coding, I could help you get started in KDE
development.
