Opened calendar widget takes up too much space

SUMMARY
I think the calendar widget mistakes my high resolution monitor for a
smartphone
It's size is disproportionally large. For example it uses more than 20cm2 of my
valuable screen estate to display "No events for today".

(The events mechanism is not useful for most users, since you cannot enter
events except by installing a complete suite of applications they don't need,
but that is another discussion.)

1. start kde
2. click on calendar widget
