That did it!

I searched out the file in config and the folder in local share and deleted
them both. This was after having uninstalled and purged kaddressbook.

I then restarted and reinstalled. And I now have the top row again!!

(Incidentally the method for getting rid of the top row is under settings show
menubar and show toolbar. But those settings vanish when you untick the blue
boxes and start kaddressbook without them. A bug!!
