Is there maybe a fork of kmail that doesn't pander to the pathetic?

Removing settings is patronising to new users and annoying to everyone else. 
As to the "security" justification, that is the user's responsibility if they
choose to disable the bar and then blindly click on emails, not yours. 

At the very least make it a bit less 'in your face' - other email clients seem
to manage without a big ugly vertical text thing there.
