I didn't stop using KMail. I stopped using filters.

If I find time to explore alternatives and find something suitable I may
switch.  Also possible I will use two mail clients in parallel.

Coincidentally, I am well positioned to test alternatives as I moved away from
using folders under "Local Folders" to using a local imap server a while ago
(because, at that time, KMail stored messages in a database instead of a
maildir). This should make it easy to use multiple clients in parallel.
