In Kmail when I select sorting by date/time the most recent message and threads
are at the top, as expected. But then, when I open a thread this order is
suddenly reversed.

Unrelated but perhaps helpful:
I would expect my own messages inside a thread as well and personally I don't
understand why the messages are more and more indented as we go down the list
this adds nothing, it only make the message details less and less readable.
