Just to confirm; also present on:

Kubuntu 17.04 Zesty
Plasma 5.10.1
Kde Frameworks 5.34.0
Kmail 5.4.3 
KDE PIM 16.12.3

Theme: Breeze-Light (everything default)

The same bug that is described above. Icon changes but no count for unread
email. Icon email-count disappeared after upgrading to PIM 16.12.3 and plasma
5.10.1 from backports.
