FTR: still doesn't work for me. Archlinux, 5.5.3 version too. After a
discussion on IRC I tried

1. Running KMail in KDE.
2. Looking the KMail log (receiving a mail doesn't produce an output)
3. Looking akonadiconsole tab "Job Tracker" (didn't find any clues)
