I have both sorting and grouping (aggregation) enabled for Date/Time. But
getting a new item on an old thread does not put that old thead on top and I
often miss it.

This was already requested in bug 32400 and should be fixed already, but it is
not as of 4.14.11.

How can I group items not only by parent items but by the latest item in the
thread, just like Evolution does with threaded view?

For grouping there is only "By Exact Date of the Thread Leaders" or "By Smart
Date Ranges of the Thread Leaders" or by Sender or Receiver.. I tried all of
that but there is no difference. Please add "By Date of the latest thread item"
or something like this.
