I can confirm this behaviour (auto-completion from Kaddressbook working only
after typing-backslash-to-the-beginning-and-typing-again) on OpenSUSE Leap
42.1, KDE Applications 16.04, KF5.22, Qt 5.6 (well, everything KDE/Qt-related
mostly bleeding edge really...).
