I experience the same on Gentoo, Qt 5.5, Plasma 5.4.1, KDEPIM from 15.08.2,
x86_64. 

It only happens every now and then when using the "New E-Mail" toolbar button,
but every single time when I open it by clicking on an e-mail address within
kmail.
