I found something:
Most of the emails that get stuck in
"/home/hussam/.local/share/akonadi/file_db_data/"
are emails that were junk filtered into trash folder and permanently deleted
later but are somehow still in
"/home/hussam/.local/share/akonadi/file_db_data/".

Perhaps force-remove an email from file_db_data when kmail deletes it from
trash as part of "Empty local trash folder on program exit" as a dirty fix?
