I am currently in the process of summoning up the courage to try this. I have
mail duplication set up on my postfix server so all mails to my main POP3
account is duplicated into a separate IMAP account on the server, so I can
restore lost mails when I find *which* ones got lost, and thats the difficult
part :). As its not visible afterwards anymore more, which mail it trashed and
can only be revealed by message-id search, but that will also find deleted spam
mails as missing.
