I believe that this is the same bug as the one I described here
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=338238

Thank you for mentioning the work around.  I had tried *moving* the emails to
another maildir, but many mails were still missing, but *copying* them to
another maildir has seemed to work correctly.  (At least I don't have to go
through IMAP to recover them...)
