I encounter the same problem with 4.11.5, with either "akregator $FEED" or
"akregator -a $FEED -g $GROUP".  What works for me is D-Bus, i. e. "qdbus
org.kde.akregator /Akregator org.kde.akregator.part.addFeedsToGroup $FEED
$GROUP".
