Same boat as all of you. I hate the Gmail web interface (even Inbox). I have
multiple IMAP clients going (iPhone, iPad, Mail on Mac) and those work, but
KMail almost never does as of late. Only recently it started to get really bad
and basically always fails to sync the 'All Mail' directory. This stops
everything from working pretty much. It gets to 99% and stays there forever.
Restarting the Akonadi server does not help very much. I have one Gmail account
with emails dating back to 2004, other IMAP clients have no problem viewing
that account's 'All Mail' folder back to the first entry.
Continuously, my accounts in Akonadi Console say 'Connection established.' as
opposed to 'Ready'. This is completely random. Right-clicking on that one and
choosing 'Restart agent' does nothing. Neither does Toggle offline/online.
I tried to set everything to live mode as well, where content is downloaded on
an as-needed basis. This has only resulted in me getting the 'Retrieving Folder
Contents' message, and it never goes away.
Really not sure what to do. KMail was great in KDE 3. I've tried to live with
Akonadi integration in KDE 4 and even tuned my PostgreSQL server for it. Even
with debug tools like Akonadi Console and enabling the PostgreSQL general log,
I cannot tell what the problem is. Every once in a while I see that Google
denied the connection, and that makes sense. But my other IMAP clients do not
generally get this issue and they even have check intervals of 30 minutes.
I really hope this is figured out. Although KMail lacks a 'Archive' feature
like in Mail.app on Mac, it still is my favourite e-mail client on Linux.
