Daniel's solution in Comment #9 solved the issue for me when I today upgraded
from Kubuntu 13.10 to 14.04. 

As of April 6th, the akonadi-server package 1.12.0-0ubuntu1 still triggered the
exact GID issue as was reported in comment #8.
