Bug ID: 324390
Summary: Android resource (local) when running Akonadi on the
phone
Classification: Unclassified
Product: Akonadi
Version: unspecified
Platform: Android
OS: Android 4.x
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: wishlist
Priority: NOR
Component: general
Assignee: kdepim-bugs at kde.org

Hello,
I know this is a bit long shot, but there it is: Lets say I have KDE and entire
linux desktop installed on my Android phone in chroot or tailored somehow into
Android filesystem. When phone is in phone mode (no extra devices connected),
entire desktop is stopped, nothing interesting is happening. But when keyboard,
mouse and large display is connected (desktop mode), desktop is started and
phone acts also as any other PC. Phone itself still works as usual. There are
many other issues to solve before this is easy to do, but it is possible, and
one major issue is very related to Akonadi.
When running on Android phone, there is no way to use local Android accounts as
Akonadi resources. This does not include any network communication from Akonadi
or resource. Point is to make contacts, calendars and other personal data
stored in the phone accessible to desktop applications whithout duplicate
syncing over remote server. Any change in desktop apps will be instantly
visible in phone apps, since they are using the same database and running on
one computer.
To better understand what I'm talking about, take a look at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iv1Z7bf4jXY -- however this is not specific to
Ubuntu in any way, plain KDE on Debian is much more likely scenario.
Installing desktop on phone is already possible, but integration with phone
features is the hard part and this Akonadi resource is important prerequisite.
Thank you for your time.
Reproducible: Didn't try
