I checked again today and after two or three minutes the problem disappeared
automagically, from 20850 ghost emails to 11 real ones. Then, ghost emails
started to repopulate my inbox folder again.

I think I have the solution : The mail filter agent (?)
When I reconfigured my laptop/kontact to use (D)IMAP instead of POP + local
folders, I forgot to reconfigure the filter rules and the actions "Move to
folder" get empty folder names (the corresponding local folders were deleted).
May be that triggered infinite loop (?) since the filtered mail never be
removed from the inbox.

I shall eventually end up clearing all filters since archiving theses e-mails
in another folder on the same IMAP is apparently another bad idea (never ending
mail filter agent, blocked at 0% progress).

Best regards
