Same problem here. 
i've just rediscovered kde/kontact but this bug could be a showstopper for me. 

btw. there seems to be an additional problem. I stumbled upon this error
because my mailprovider changed from STARTTLS to SSL/TLS. I have 2 different
IMAP-Accounts in different servers, the changed one stopped Kmail. IMAP trys to
open folders and never come back to life with hammering the server.
