Is anyone monitoring this bug? Can it be changed from Unconfirmed to Wishlist?

I personally avoid using programs that start Akonadi because it is too resource
intensive. I like KDE and the Plasma Desktop. I would like to use KDE programs,
but I refuse to use them if the automatically start Akonadi. I instead have to
find alternative programs; that sometimes means installing programs that are
ugly because they use GTK or depend on Gnome libraries.

It would be great if it could be converted to an add-on or plug-in that could
be called by any compliant program once it becomes less resource intensive. For
now, it would be great if a preference could be added that could tell a program
not to start or use Akonadi.

Another name for additional title for this could be:

Add Preference to Make Akonadi Optional for Programs That Use It

or in total:

Remove Akonadi Dependencies and Add Preference to Make Akonadi Optional for
Programs That Use It
