I am having a similar problem after upgrading from Linux Mint 13 KDE to Linux
Mint 14 KDE.  Akonadi refuses to run.  From the Akonadi Server Self-Test - KDE
Control Module, I get the following errors:

MySQL Server Log contains errors.
Akonadi control process not registered at D-Bus.
Akonadi server process not registered at D-Bus.
No resource agents found.
Current Akonadi server error log found.
and
Previous Akonadi server error log found.

Also, I am a relative newbie.  I upgraded using a live DVD.  Afterwards, I
restored my software and data from USB sticks.  Additionally, when I upgraded,
the hard drive was divided into two partitions, with a smaller sub-partition (I
assume Linux Swap) on the second.  It appears as thought the operating system
is on one drive and the data/media on the other.
