On my end, I can confirm that this bug doesn't affect Kmail (4.9.5) anymore.
On my main local maildir folder, I use the following configuration :
- synchronize when selecting this folder
- automatically synchronize : never
- receive message body on demand
- keep message body locally for 1 minute

Oddly, all my mails folder shows a 'last indexing date' the 2012-11-26,
although Nepomuk mail indexation is checked..

And finally, to be completely honest, selecting a folder doesn't display the
mail instantly (as it should imho), but with a small 0,5 second delay (thanks
to my SSD perhaps ?).
