hello Laurel, I would love to give you more info but I can't ... 

there is not more to it: 
Everytime mail isn't sent (when smtp authentificatien fails - the reason
doesn't matter) kmail shows this message (see above in comment 2) in red
letters above the actual mail. 

the problem is that this message shows a cleartext password which is insecure
and undesirable ... 

What else do you need? I am glad to provide but I don't see what information
you are missing - it happens when "smtp authentification fails"
