I'm seeing the same problem, on KMail 4.8.5

Email sits in the outbox, and is not send when sending email. No errors are
displayed on the UI, no logging is displayed on the server side. If I start
KMail from the console, then I get the following output:

sam at strange:~$ kmail
QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication.
Application may misbehave.
QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication.

kmail2(11208)/kdepimlibs (mailtransport): Could not access Outbox. 

I can see the emails in the local outbox, so I'm not sure what it means by
can't access it.

I can send either via SMTP or using local sendmail. If I try sending emails
from Thunderbird with the same configuration, it all works.

Was working fine on Kubuntu 11.04, I just upgraded to 12.04 which is when
things stopped working.
