I experience the same behaviour with kde 4.8.1. (started around 4.7.*)

An additional sympton is, that the mails in the remote (imap) "sent mails"
directory are initially marked as unread. (while this is somehow true, this is
obviously not, how it should be.)

It should be mentioned, that this behaviour appears only in "disconnected" imap
mode.
