I can confirm this on openSUSE with 4.8.1. Kmail cannot open emails forwarded
by itself.

It does not matter whether the email is part of an imap account or moved to a
local folder.

To reproduce just forward an email as attachment with kmail to yourself, click
on the "forwarded message" link in the received email and pick "open with kmail
view". It will tel you that the file does not contain a message.

If you use the email structure pane you can access the forwarded email. Hence
the data is accessible, it's just kmail2 view failing to open it.
