I don't know much about the internals of kmail, but I don't see why it's a big
difference to delete a body part compared with an attachment.  i regularly use
pine (I am old school) and want to switch to kmail, but its inability to do
this has kept me from doing so.  in pine any part of the mail message may be
deleted or viewed separately.  I delete all the text/html parts of mail
messages and only retain the text/plain part.

In the message itself, a body part isn't really too different from an
attachment.  It's just a minor difference in the MIME header.
