This ("...added binlog_format=row after the first [mysqld]...") doesn't solve
the problem for me. 
I don't use Kmail, only use CalDav for sync Google Calendar in Korganizer. I
also notice that plasma crashes if the password in the networkmanager Wi-Fi
configuration is wrong.

This only happen in KDE 4.8.4 for me. Not in KDE 4.8.3
