Can confirm this problem using kubuntu 11.10 and (deb
http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/beta/ubuntu oneiric main, which is
currently  4.7.97 (4.8 RC2) ).
I have three connected IMAP accounts and have seen this problem with two of
them.
I don't use suspend but I think it is triggered in situations where the IMAP
servers are not responsive. Either because of heavy network traffic jamming the
connection or because of WLAN dropouts. However this is not really
reproducible.
Once the message spamming starts it seems to never stop even if the connection
is fine.
