I upgraded to 4.8 following comment #11 (even though I'm using kubuntu).
Could you describe exactly how you recreated the akonadi resources Joachim ?

I guess you have to go in the akonadi tray > Configure, then delete the imap
and maildir ressources ? In doing so, wouldn't you lose all your tags
(important) on your email ?

Rigth now, without having recreated the ressources, kde 4.8 kmail is a bit
faster, but still unusable in the long run.
