Bug ID: 311781
Severity: wishlist
Version: 1.8.1
Priority: NOR
Assignee: kdepim-bugs at kde.org
Summary: Akonadi should do mail sorting itself and allow
applications to query a subset of a mailbox
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux
Reporter: devurandom at gmx.net
Hardware: Other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Component: server
Product: Akonadi
Currently, whenever I open a mailbox with KMail/Kontact, it seems to retrieve
the complete folder contents from Akonadi. This often takes a long time
(several seconds up to half a minute), during which the messages displayed by
Kontact are moving around, while they are being sorted and collated into
threads. This makes it hard or impossible to view them during that time.
The email sorting (i.e. by date, arrival time, or whatever is selected in
Kontact) could be done within Akonadi itself. Then it would be possible for
applications like Kontact to query just a subset of the messages within the
mailbox, i.e. those that will actually be displayed.
I expect that this would solve the annoying moving-messages problem and also
speed up display in general. As a further enhancement Kontact could also
prefetch messages that are not yet displayed - i.e. progressively request the
rest of the mailbox.
Reproducible: Always
