I agree, it should be possible to assign a different shortcut (or no shortcut)
to the Send action.
As a workaround, you can "require confirmation before sending", see KMail
configuration, page for Accounts, the Sending tab, near the bottom. Then at
least you have to hit Return accidentally twice before anything bad happens...
