I almost forgot about this "feature", until for some reasons I switched my
kmail shortcut configuration back to the default, and... replied with
"R"...unfortunately to the mailing-list, not the author - highly embarassing
(again!)

Please, please, please, make "R" the default short-cut for "reply to author".
This is what people typically want. Currently, the default short-cut for "reply
to author" is "Shift+A" - nobody uses that! Ever!

Also think about what can be worse - accidentally sending a private e-mail to
the mailing list, or accidentally sending a public e-mail to one person?
