Is it still happening for you with 4.7.x? I've been unable to reproduce that
one, it just works for me. I managed to sync 80k emails from GMail yesterday
night in around an hour.

In case you still experience this please feel free to reopen so that we can try
to investigate further. Getting an idea of the IMAP traffic going on really
helps for this kind of cases.
