To end this: if you compare KDE PIM 4.7.1 to KDE PIM 4.6 beta 4, it's like
comparing heaven and hell, and that's with all the improvements in beta 4. In
KDE 4.7.1, mails flow into my GMail account as they arrive, since the IDLE
extension is working.

Kudos to everyone involved ─ this is FIXED.
