Well, I submitted the bug against kmail because I thought it provided the mail
viewer. If that is not the case, feel free to redirect this bug to the
apropriate product. However, I am referring to the window/componnent that opens
when you double-click a message in kmail. It is the same as when you open an
mbox from dolphin or a message from lionmail. This componnent just behaves
differently when starting from outside kmail. 
I am attaching a screenshot showing this behavior. I saved the above message to
an mbox file on disk. The window on the left was opened by navigating to the
folder where I saved the file to with dolphin and then:
right-click mbox -> Open with... -> Kmail view
The window on the right was openned by double clicking on the message in kmail.
