forget what i just wrote, it actually didn't help a bit. these damn popups keep
driving me nuts each and every time i stark kmail. it is in no shape for actual
work here (it's 4.7.2 from kubuntu 11.10, btw). 

running kmail on the console didn't give much insight either ("unknown error
103").
