Also having all of the above problems with kmail2.  I have tried all of the
above work-arounds as well as some creative(?) things of my own to no avail. 
Kmail2 has been a disaster here.....  not really usable even with the
considerable effort needed to go from kmail to kmail2....

I know its all open-software and you get what you pay for.... but if it doesn't
work, you have to find something else.
