Tried with a newly created database to isolate.

1. When the Akonadi activity detector decides the system is not idle (when I'm
typing this, for instance), CPU usage is normal.
2. When I'm away from the computer, CPU usage is 100%.

So, this is related to the activity detection code. IMHO, that code must go.
