I have the same problem. My Gmail account is ~1.2GB and Kmail tries to download
it multiple times per day. When I catch it, I restart Akonadi to stop it from
exceeding the bandwidth limit.

I think I've been seeing this behaviour since the first beta of KDEPIM 4.6
(before that I was using the Akonadi-less 4.4 branch), and throughout all KDE
SC 4.6 betas, rc-s and final.
