Retested again with Windows CE. This time I looked at the CPU load while
syncing large1:
At the beginning of the sync:
akonadi agent server ~13 
dbus ~8
akonadi_imap_resource ~6-14

In the middle of the sync:
kmail mobile 6-7
(sometimes) dbus ~8

So the bottleneck is not the CPU I would suppose.
