Perhaps, I was able to work around the problem by removing all the akonadi
database and starting over again.  It seems to be related to the conversion
process.  I have since abandoned that on all my other boxes and haven't seen
the problem since.  I still think there is a bug that needs to be fixed, but it
is not bothering me any more.
