- What I was doing when the application crashed:

i was running KMail 4.7.0 for the first time.  this was after clearing my
~/.kde and ~/.config/akonadi and ~/.local/akonadi (just in case).  i started
Kontact and set up my identity, accounts, and other settings.  one of the
accounts is configured as dIMAP.  while syncing the new accounts, which took a
long time (on the order of an hour), viewing a message took about 10-20 seconds
each time.

after the initial sync finished, i noticed that my primary account's inbox was
empty, although in reality there are thousands of messages in it.  i restarted
Kontact, which didn't help.  then i told Kontact specifically to update the
inbox (via a context menu on it).  this seemed to do the trick, as it kicked
off another long process.  when i returned much later to check the status,
Kontact had crashed.
