I've reported more detailled steps to reproduce part of what happened to you.

See bugs:
* Bug #252178 -  No error message when trying to display emails while 'Enable
Disconnected Mode' unchecked
* Bug #252185 -  Imap sync impossible after loosing internet connexion
(Disconnected mode unchecked)
