Yes, indeed. These are the issues I wanted to surface to avoid any
surprises or disappointments. The KDE solution is viable on an ongoing
basis as it is not limited to the existing KDE3 or KOLAB versions but is
part of Trinity which is an ongoing development of KDE3 for current
distribution versions, e.g., the latest Debian and Ubuntu. Thus, it
does have a future all on its own as Trinity - a successor to KDE3.

However, I know that many of those who are interested in this solution
are not using Trinity but KDE4 and will probably stay on KDE4. Porting
the solution to KDE4 is part of the plan however, it is a separate
project and a separate bounty. So what does all that mean practically?

If all goes perfectly well:
1) We will raise the $2500 bounty for the requisite first step - the
Trinty/KDE3 version
2) Tim will complete the Trinity/KDE3 implementation.
3) We will raise the $1000 bounty for the KDE4 port
4) Someone will assist with a build environment for KDE4 since Tim does
not have one
5) Tim will complete the KDE4 port
6) The KDE developers will accept the patch. They have said they are
willing to include this functionality if someone else writes it; they
just do not have the resources to do so themselves.

However, what happens if we miss step #3 or the KDE developers reject
the solution in step #6? I will be very happy because I need the patch
for Trinity. I'm concerned about accidentally abandoning the KDE4 users
after taking their funds to accomplish step #2.

May we please have some discussion on this point - not a debate - just a
discussion to make sure no one is accidentally hurt. Thanks - John
