I'm seeing the same thing on kde 4.4.5. I have two logins with essentially the
same configuration; one has the problem (and it seems always has since
installing in July) and the other does not.

The workaround described in #1 has fixed the problem for now.
(but with "akonadictl stop" rather than "akonadictl --stop")
