unable to fetch mail (from pop server)

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
check mail

Actual Results:  
progress bar and detailed progress window on the lower left corner of window is
showing "connecting? activity" / "preparing transmission" ... until aborted by
user. Messages are not retrieved from the server.

severity: major because kmail became unusable - no data loss though.


OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.31.14-0.4-desktop
Compiler: gcc
