Yes, I get this sometimes too, even now. There are a few things in here, but
I'd suggest that one thing that could make the search folders "feel" more
permanent, would be the following:

- When you right-click on an existing search folder, rather than having "find
messages", it should say "modify search" or something.

- Then, when you click on this to get to to the search window, it should
remember the existing search. At present, it resets to empty search criteria.
