Ok.  I think have got this fixed.  In Kontact, Setting/Configure Filters.

Then, view available filters on the left.  Remove every filter.  Apply and
close.  Then go back into Tools/Spam Wizard.  Select one (I seclect Spambayes).
 Follow simple instructions.  Set the Spam to be dumped into the Spam file. 
Done.  Everything works.  Trash is now trash, Spam gets placed in Spam and real
mail gets sorted to the associated boxes.  

Works great.
